Questions
& Answer
What are the prices of your puppies?
Each puppy is priced
individually according to breed and size. Toys usually start around $500
and up. If you are interested in a particular puppy, please call for more
information.
Do
you ship your puppies?
No, we do not ship our puppies. The reason for this is no matter what
shipping method a breeder may use, it is still much too stressful and
frightening for such a delicate puppy to have to experience alone. We
also prefer to meet our customers in person, so we can sit through orientation
together and feel 100% confident that they are fully educated by the time
they walk out of our store.
Where
do you get your puppies?
Our puppies come
from USDA licensed and regulated breeders across the United States. Specific
breeder information is given to the customer at the time of orientation.
All of our pure bred puppies come with registration papers, and most with
pedigrees. There is a misunderstanding that "local" breeders
means better. This is definitely not true. Our breeders are inspected
and licensed. Regular home breeders are not inspected by anyone, are not
licensed and are not required to give any warranties on puppies they sell.
How
old are your puppies?
Our puppies vary
in age, but must be at least 8 weeks old before arriving in our care.
Most puppies are ready to go after being checked by a veterinarian, but
sometimes the tiny ones must stay a bit longer, so we can make sure they
develop good eating habits.
Have
your puppies had all their shots?
Our
puppies arrive just after they turn eight weeks old. While we have them
in the store, they are visited by our wonderful vets at Bridgeport Veterinary
Hospital and puppy shots are kept up-to-date. Puppies receive a series
of shots until they are about 22 weeks old. This will vary slightly according
to the vet you use. Puppies, like children, receive shots to protect against
various serious diseases. When you purchase your puppy, we send you home
with lots of helpful training and feeding information as well as the puppy's
up to date shot records.
Will my puppy get sick?
This is very important! Just as children pick up illnesses
from other children, puppies can pick up colds, coughs, and illnesses
from other dogs. We take the best possible care of our puppies while they
are ours and we have a medical room in the store to care for puppies that
develop common puppy ailments. Like people, puppies can incubate illness
or hide symptoms. That is why we offer a variety of warranties to help
you care for your new puppies.
What health warranties do you offer?
The state requires a 15-day guarantee. We also offer 6
month health warranties which far exceed this minimum requirement. Our
warranties will be explained to you in detail when you purchase your puppy.
I
have allergies. Which puppy would be best for me?
Breeds which do not shed are best for people with allergies. Some breeds
which you should consider are Poodles, Bichons, Shih tzu, Maltese, Yorkies
etc…we will carries all of these breeds.

that are very desirable. Most puppies at Precious Pupz sell within a few
days. Puppies that take longer to sell are discounted so that they still

What are microchips?
A microchip is a tiny transponder about the size of a grain of rice. It
has a unique identification number programmed into it. It is small enough
to fit inside a hypodermic needle and is simply injected under the skin.
The microchip is a "passive electronic device". This means that
the chip itself does not give out any sort of electronic activity on its
own. Once it is implanted, the microchip remains inactive until read by
a scanner. Scanners send a low radio frequency signal to the chip, providing
the power needed by the microchip to send its code back to the scanner.
Why should a puppy be micro chipped?
It only takes a second for a puppy to slip out an open door or gate. Statistics
show that one out of three family pets will be lost. It can be heart wrenching
to discover your faithful friend and companion is missing.
Visual tags often become lost, misplaced, or obsolete. The microchip is
a permanent form of identification that will stay with your puppy forever.
National registration services provide 24 hour worldwide pet identification.
When a puppy is found that has been micro chipped, the registration service
is contacted, and within minutes, a pet can be identified. But unless
you have enrolled your pet in the animal recovery program, you cannot
be contacted.
Do Precious Pupz puppies come with registration
papers?
While a few of the puppies that Precious Pupz sells are unregistral, the
majority of the puppies are register through one or more of the registry
groups (see What are the different registries?). The register ability
and registry group are clearly shown on the guarantee that accompanies
each puppy.
What are the different registries?

Association, is America's largest all-breed registry that offers lifetime
lost and found service, exclusive access to Ask A Vet, exclusive access
to animal behaviorists through Ask A Trainer, and lifetime genetic health
tracking.
The AKC, or American Kennel Club, maintains a registry for purebred dogs.

Inc., is an internationally recognized nonprofit association of responsible
pet owners, breeders, distributors, veterinarians, retailers, pet product
manufacturers, and other concerned parties dedicated to the humane care
of animals, the preservation of quality bloodlines, and every individual's

The CKC, or Continental Kennel Club, is an all-breed kennel club, founded

and "promoting the knowledge and understanding of the benefits which
dogs can bring to Canadian society". They register purebred dogs,

concerning dog ownership and the health and welfare of dogs across Canada.

all-breed dog registry in the United States. Founded in 1898 by Chauncey
Z. Bennett, the registry has always supported the idea of the "total
dog", meaning a dog that looks and performs equally well. With 250,000
registrations annually, the performance programs of UKC include Conformation
Shows, Obedience Trials, Agility Trials, Coonhound Field Trials, Water
Races, Nite Hunts and Bench Shows, hunting tests for the retrieving breeds,
